Location: Boca Raton, Florida
Builder: Bliss Construction, LLC
Architect: Affiniti Architects
In 2005 Hardie Boys completed the exterior millwork on the Talbott residence in Boca Raton, Florida. The British West Indies themed home located on the intercoastal waterway was designed by Affiniti Architects and built by Bliss Construction, LLC. The project incorporated the existing structure into the design, keeping the existing great room balcony which projects to the very edge of the intercoastal. This is just one of the numerous design characteristics which make this Boca home unique.
At the front elevation, four massive spanish cedar recessed panel columns are framed by two large canary date palms. A three-piece Azek transition trim seperates the HardiPlank lap siding cladding the 2nd floor walls from the stucco on the lower level. Each window has fixed spanish cedar louver/panel combination shutters. The siding terminates into an Azek friezeboard with thick cypress outlookers painted white against a stained cypress tongue and groove soffit.
To the right of the main house the garage is topped with an oversized cupola with spanish cedar louvers for venting. To the left of the main house is a breezeway which leads to the north wing. In the middle of the beezeway a wooden gate opens into a gallery of recessed panel columns with a coffered ceiling. The view at the op
posite end opens into a pool made of natural rock and past that the intercoastal.
The rear elevation of the house is highlighted by the great room balcony with spanish cedar railings forming an X design with concentric squares, accenting the West Indies feel the architecture of the house conveys. Above and below the balcony are faux beams and oversized outlookers simulating big timber framing. Adjoining the great room balcony is an outdoor kitchen overlooking the pool. Bahama shutters held open by custom aluminum arms with spires shade the whole area.
From the oversized shutters at the south elevation of the great room to the large lanais with long runs of stained tongue and groove broken by white faux beams the architectural details of the house truly capture the feeling of island living.
